Facilities and Maintenance Tech - Physical Plant

NBBB has been building boats on beautiful Whidbey Island since 1964. We are in Freeland, WA where we produce state-of-the-art vessels, tugs, ferries, fire boats, fishing vessels, barges, dinner boats, along with many other sophisticated ships.  We are seeking a Facilities and Maintenance Technician who will service the shipyard facilities and maintenance related needs including but not limited to structural building repair and maintenance and light construction projects  and shipyard facilities maintenance tasks including general maintenance and repair of all facilities including but not limited to security and perimeter and physical access / security, structural building repair,  and maintenance and repair of large portable big-top structures and other projects to ensure smooth operation of production facilities.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform building maintenance tasks in one or more fields, including security and perimeter and physical access / security, structural building repair, and maintenance and repair of large portable big-top structures
• Inspect buildings and other structures to determine functional systems and detect malfunctions and needed repair making notes and recommendations using a pre‐established check sheet.
• Clean service project sites as needed in support of providing safe and productive work environment for skilled crafts.
• Perform janitorial duties and help with yard maintenance.
• Embrace continuous improvement in approach to job and in providing safe and healthy work environment.
• Perform and/or report minor maintenance repairs, report damages and service needs.
• Notify management of occurring deficiencies or needs for repairs.
• Accommodate user needs and maximize office space using various hand, power and specialty tools, dollies, and hand trucks.
• Operation, maintenance, and repair of all gas distribution lines, including all valves and control devices.
• Operation, maintenance and repair of sanitary sewer systems, sump pumps including basins, water closets, urinals, and piping
• Assist as needed in servicing common area rooms, rest rooms, parking lots, and other work areas.
• Works with outside contractors and vendors on facilities and equipment repairs.
• Develop positive working relationship between Facilities and Maintenance organization and partner and client departments
• Assist with maintenance and repair of all types of electrical motors and engines used to power pumps, compressors, and fans, gas distribution lines, and valves and control devices.
• Maintain and repair sanitary sewer systems, sump pumps including basins, water closets, urinals, and piping.
• Work as a member of a team demonstrating skills to effectively communicate, adapt, interpret and problem solve.
• Always embrace safety culture and practice safe shipyard work practices and housekeeping
• Develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with fellow crew members and supervision
• Other tasks as needed that may arise in our exciting work environment

Requirements

• Two years' experience in facilities and maintenance role, with emphasis on firsthand construction, perimeter security and fencing, and other heavy-construction or site improvement projects
• Basic mechanical experience.
• Experience with wide variety of hand tools
• High School Education or equivalent or vocational education
• Understanding of equipment operation and troubleshooting and diagnosing problems.
• Ability to work independently or as a member of a team, as the project(s) deems necessary.
• Ability to work closely with other team members in a professional and harmonious manner.
• Willingness to work extra hours or non-routine shifts as demanded by construction.
• Ability to pass company pre-employment screens in background check, drug test, and physical skills test.

What Additional Things Would Distinguish You
• Previous exposure to and proficiency with shipyard systems.
• Three to five years' experience in facilities and maintenance role, preferably in a marine shipbuilding environment
• Interest in and aptitude for taking on future crew leadership roles
• Certification, or skills and experience in driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklift or manlifts
