CAD Drafter

NBBB has been building boats on beautiful Whidbey Island since 1964. We are located in Freeland, WA where we produce state-of-the-art vessels; tugs, ferries, fire boats, fishing vessels, barges, dinner boats, along with many other sophisticated ships. Just an hour away from the yard is the thriving Seattle metropolitan area. We are a team that specializes in versatility to build an astonishing variety of vessels. We are seeking a team member who can create computer aided design drawings and plans related to various new build projects.

This is an excellent opportunity to join the team of a well-established “Builder of Premium Water Craft”.  As the Cad Drafter reporting directly to the company’s Engineering Manager, you will design and prepare working plan, charts, scale drawings and revisions for projects.  You will Interfaces with sales, marketing, project teams and production staff to prepare necessary documents for presentations and production deadlines.

• prepare and create clear, complete and accurate plans and detail drawings from rough or detailed sketches/notes, contract changes and/or bid specifications.
• Reviews crew's timecards for correct hours and phase coding.
• Acts as liaison with outside engineers who provide structural, electrical and mechanical designs for projects, ensuring that BMI's NBBB drawings reflect the engineer's design intentions.
• Creates construction and fabrication drawings in accordance with company standards and design engineer's directions and specifications.
• Utilizes knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings.
• Makes any adjustments or changes necessary or desired.
• Compiles and maintains both paper and data files on all projects for a historical record of all drawings completed in a manner that allows for retrieval and archiving.
• Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.


Mandatory Requirements
• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Associates Degree with CAD coursework or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 2 years experience working as a Drafter in a manufacturing or construction environment.
• Verifiable working knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Excel, Word and Outlook.
• Ability to use computer assisted drafting (CAD) equipment and software fluently.
• Minimum one year experience working in a network environment.
• Proficiency with MS Office software, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Nichols Boats is a drug free workplace and all applicants are subject to a pre-employment drug screen and a background check.

Preferred Requirements
• AutoCAD Certified.
• Marine Experience.
• Ship Constructor experience is a plus.
