This 6,800-horsepower harbor tug is one of the most powerful escort vessels operating in San Francisco Bay, but it offers more than brute force. A modern tug€s duties also demand finesse and versatility. The forward escort winch features advanced software to control and display the system€s operations. The bridge is virtually surrounded by walls of glass that offers the skipper unobstructed views in every direction, and the communications and navigation systems are designed to work as an integrated package. The unusually spacious engine room reserves space for two 700 HP diesels to later add firefighting capability. Delta Billie is the third in a series of four that Nichols is building for Baydelta Maritime, based in San Francisco.
